“Hero for Hire”is an Alex Ross illustration artistically portraying Marvel’s gritty mercenary, Carl Lucasa.k.a Luke Cage. Created in 1972 by Archie Goodwin and John Romita Sr., the character first appeared in the comic “Hero for Hire #1.”
Carl Lucas, after being framed by his friend, lands in prison where he is recruited to be apart of a cell regeneration experiment. When the scientist abuses the experimental controls, Carl becomes superhuman possessing incredible strength, uncanny healing powers, and skin as hard as steel and impervious to extreme temperatures. Using this newfound strength he escapes prison, adopts the alias Luke Cage, and launches a career as a “Hero for Hire,” helping anyone who can meet his price.
This image is the third release in a series of more minimalistic renderings of the Super Heroes. Featured first was “Wonder Woman: Goddess of Truth,”next was KaL-El with others to follow. Each print is signed by Alex Ross and is elegantly presented with hand-deckled edges creating the ultimate presentation.
